On March 31 and April 1, 2021, hundreds of cyclists joined the Camarines Sur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., and the Arch Diocese of Caceres for Bisikleta Iglesia 2021, a pious pilgrimage that takes participants on a tour of 14 churches, each representing one of the 14 stations of the cross.
Bisikleta Iglesia 2021 created 3 routes for devout cyclists around Naga, Mt. Isarog, as well as Rinconada, and partnered with 14 parishes in each area. Registered participants received a Bisikleta Iglesia Kit, complete with a souvenir jersey, Bisikleta Iglesia stickers, and a prayerbook/passport. Cyclists biked from church to church, prayed, and got their passport stamped. Those who completed the pilgrimage by getting 14 stamps from the 14 participating parishes will receive a certificate of completion from the Camarines Sur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. All proceeds from the event will go towards the formation of seminarians at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary.
This year’s event, organized by the CSCCI Sports and Leisure Committee headed by Maricel Ann M. Brioso, and the Rector of the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary Fr. Jay L. Jacinto, has sparked the spirit of community as it would not have been possible without the special participation of en route municipalities from the 3rd, 4th and 5th districts of Camarines Sur, generous sponsors such as Angena Trading, Pixeled Solutions, and Soledad Restaurants as well as the growing cycling community including groups such as HOJ Bikers headed by 5th District Board Member Wilfredo Julio Oliva, and Riga City Vice Mayor Wilfredo Rex Oliva.
As the Lenten season ends, let Bisikleta Iglesia remind you that all routes lead to the same goal: a renewal of faith.
